Believe it or not Cancer is Curable

Category: Health

To many of us, its still a very confusing question as to what exactly Cancer is?, what are its actual effects, symptoms, its cause and cure? People in many cities, villages of India are still not literate about Cancer and its symptoms. This article is for all those who is still confused about Cancer. It might help you understand to actually what is Cancer, its symptoms and cause. And ,how to prevent it and cure it.

What is Cancer? It refers to cells in our body which grow out of control and spread to other cells of the body and convert them to defective cells that stop working. In simple terms it refers to those bad cells that influence and effects the working of other cells. Cells become cancerous due to the accumulation of defects or mutations in their DNA.

Cancer is a genetic disease—that is, it is caused by changes to genes that control the way our cells function, especially how they grow and divide.
It occurs in many different forms and effect different parts of the body, it can be any party of the body like, brain , nose, lungs, liver  and skin etc.

  • Certain inherited genetic defects also causes the DNA to damage making it defective, infections can also increase the risk of cancer.
  • Environmental factors , for example air pollution and poor life style choices such as smoking and heavy alcohol use can also damage the DNA.

  • Most of the times, the cells which are impacted by some kind of infections are able to detect and recover themselves from DNA damage, However, if a cell is severely damaged and cannot repair itself. It undergoes a process called programmed cell death or in medical terms it is called as “apoptosis”.

Cancer occurs when damaged and defective cells grow, divide and spread abnormally in different regions of the body, as a result making them also defective instead of being self-destructive.

Tumors :- Tumor is an abnormal mass of cells. It is a swelling of a part of the body, the swelling can occur on any part like head, Nose, Mouth, Breast, Stomach Leg anywhere, generally without inflammation, caused by an abnormal growth of tissue, whether Benign(non- cancerous) or Malignant(Cancerous). Non- Cancerous tissues grow locally and does not spread whereas cancerous tumors spread and infect other tissues, this process is called “Metastasis” . It is the process where cancel cells break free from a tumor and expand to other areas and invade the other tissues in the body. Metastasis is an important stage, because it helps to determine the staging and treatment of cancer.

There are more than 100 types of cancer. Every cancer type in any individual is unique, because the term is one i.e, “cancer”, but its causes and types may be different and their symptoms may also differ. So, its  very important to understand the symptoms of cancer for  a person , so that he or she can consult to a doctor as soon as he or she  finds something similar in their body state and behavior as these symptoms-

  • Signs such as fever, pain,  fatigue,  skin changes(redness, sores that won’t heal, jaundice, darkening)and unintended weight loss or gain can often occur with cancer.
  • Other potential signs of cancer include lump, difficulty in swallowing, difficulties with bowel and bladder function, persistent cough and unexplained bleeding or discharge.

Some other symptoms are-

  • Breathlessness
  • Unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Persistent heartburn or indigestion
  • Looser poo or pooing more often
  • Persistent Bloating
  • Difficulty Swallowing
  • Mouth or tongue ulcer that won’t heal
  • Heavy Night Sweats
  • Unusual breast changes                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     indication of cancer growing
  • Blood in your poo
  • Urinal blood
  • Unexplained pain or ache

Stages of Cancer

Stage 0 – This stage is called “in situ” cancerous cells are in their site of origin that means cancer has not spread and is not infecting other tissues.

Stage I - Stage III- the higher stages of cancer corresponds to larger tumors and/or greater extent of disease. Cancer in this stage may extent beyond stage 0 and infect tissues and organs.

Stage IV – This type of cancer may spread to distant lymph and nodes, tissues and organs.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Steps of Cancer

Cancer treatment mainly depends on the type and stages of cancer as well as the state of health of the patient. The most common treatments of cancer are –

Surgery –Surgery is often performed to cure cancer and remove cancerous tumors, with surgery the determination of actual size of tumor can be done and removed. However , sometimes it is not possible to remove the infected part completely because it may damage the critical organs of the nearby tissues. In that case a surgery called “debulking” is performed to remove as much infected part as possible, similarly “palliative” surgery is done in the advanced part of the cancer. Both the surgeries are done to reduce the effect of cancer to a minimize the effect of the cancer.

Radiation – This is the most used treatment for curing cancer. Radiation kills the cancer by damaging their  DNA, during radiation it may happen that the DNA of healthy cells are also damaged. So, its important that radiation treatment should be done with utmost care.

Chemotherapy –
This is one of the most use treatment of cancer depending on the stage at which the patient is. “Chemo” in Chemotherapy means using more than 100 different medications used to treat cancer. Chemotherapy cures cancer. If a cure is not possible then the target is to slow down the growth of cancer and keep the cancer from spreading to other parts of body.

Other Cancer Treatments

Targeted Biological therapies – This therapy looks to treat cancer and improve the immunity System of the body by minimizing the effect of infected cells to a normal cell.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplants – this therapy involves the fusion of stem cells into the cancer patient after the bone marrow has been finished by high dosr chemo or radiation session.

Cryosurgery involves the application of very cold air pressure to destroy the pre cancerous and cancerous cells.

Ineeddoctor supports and willing to help those patients which are suffering from this dangerous disease, and also  to those people who are ignorant abot the where's and how's of the disease. The main objective through this article is to let the people understand what is cancer and how it can be cured  with time.
